A range of expert speakers from Envirowise, The Carbon Trust and NISP (National Industrial Waste Symbiosis Programme) will present to food and drink processors at The Alverton Manor Hotel, Truro on Wednesday 24 February 2010. The event is being run through the ESF supported Key Sectors project and the speakers will identify practical techniques for making business efficiencies, improving environmental credentials and reducing costs.
Envirowise will provide some ideas for immediate quick wins, where implementing changes and taking advantage of opportunities can have instant effects. Envirowise will also run a session focusing on ways to revolutionise packaging design, exploring opportunities to reduce the materials and embodied carbon involved in producing and packaging products. The Carbon Trust will provide information about how to measure and monitor energy consumption, set realistic reduction targets, and understand and minimise energy costs. In the afternoon NISP will host a lively and interactive session that aims to deliver financial and environmental benefits by matching resources between businesses including waste, logistics, water and expertise.
A number of local business case studies will be presented to demonstrate successful projects and share best practice. The workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the provision available to food and drink businesses of all sizes in Cornwall, identifying organisations and resources that can help make changes happen.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for Cornish food and drink businesses, not to be missed!
