Thursday 3 December saw the launch of the CBI report ‘Promoting diversity: the power or procurement’. The report sets out practical guidance for public bodies and their suppliers on how to use the purchase and provision of public services to improve equality and diversity in the communities they serve.
The European Social Fund and Department for Work and Pensions co-financed ‘Cornwall Works Plus’ project is one of the report’s featured case studies. It demonstrates how achieving good outcomes on diversity and equality goes hand in hand with delivering high quality public services.
In July 2008 Working Links became the prime provider for Cornwall Works Plus. The project aims to bring more local people into the labour market through sustainable job opportunities that include ongoing training and development. It helps the most disadvantaged unemployed overcome the often multiple barriers they find in facing and retaining work.
